From Infertility to Our Miracle: The Story of Lucy Lin

From Infertility to Our Miracle: The Story of Lucy Lin

My husband, Michael, and I met in college and spent years in the “friend zone” — until we finally realized we were meant to be more. We married and loved dreaming together, planning adventures and traveling the world hand in hand.

After a few wonderful years, our hearts turned toward growing our family. We were full of hope — but quietly, I carried a tender fear: What if we can’t?

Month after month, negative pregnancy tests slowly chipped away at our excitement. As the months stretched into a year and beyond, we found ourselves grappling with heartbreak and uncertainty. Eventually, a doctor’s visit revealed challenges we hadn’t expected. Suddenly, we were swept into a whirlwind of appointments, tests, an MRI, long waiting periods — and more questions than answers.

Turning to a fertility clinic was both humbling and healing. For the first time, I felt truly seen as I tearfully shared how deeply I longed to become a mother — and to see Michael as a father. After more testing, surgery was recommended. It was a hard decision, but we leaned into our faith and into the love of family and friends who surrounded us. The surgery went well, but at our follow-up appointment, we were told our cMhances of conceiving naturally were very slim — and that we might need additional procedures in the future.

It was a true rollercoaster of emotions. And it was heartbreaking.

Still, we chose to try everything we could before pursuing in vitro fertilization (IVF). We explored alternative fertility treatments, but when a travel conflict forced me to miss our first scheduled treatment, I was crushed. Everything about fertility is so time-sensitive. I felt like we were losing our window.

Then — something unexpected happened.

A few weeks later, on my birthday, I took a pregnancy test. Expecting disappointment, I almost didn’t want to look… but this time, I saw two pink lines. I was pregnant. Michael and I sobbed together, overwhelmed with disbelief and gratitude. I wanted to take a dozen more tests just to be sure, because I could hardly believe it was real.

Six weeks later, we heard our baby’s heartbeat for the first time — one of the most sacred, unforgettable moments of our lives. After 11 weeks, we shared our news with family and friends — the same loved ones who had carried us through every heartbreak and setback.

Our miracle baby is a girl. We named her Lucy Lin.

Lucy was inspired by a little girl we met while dating, whose kindness and light stayed with us. Lin is my maiden name — a tribute to my heritage and to the family who shaped me.

Lucy Lin is our living reminder that motherhood is full of miracles.

Infertility was one of the hardest chapters of our lives, but we are grateful — not only for Lucy, but for the way that season strengthened our marriage, deepened our faith, and connected us to others walking similar paths.

If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that no one has to walk through hard things alone. Faith is what helped us during those hard times.

Faith within waiting.

Faith within hope.

Faith within the miracle.

Faith within love.

We are forever grateful for our little miracle, Lucy Lin.
