The change of seasons is a perfect opportunity to try new activities with your family and start new traditions as well. Sometimes it is difficult seeing activities that are easier with older children but not as much for younger or vice versa. Here is a list of activities to try out this season to strengthen family bonds and lean into the season.
1. Go on an afternoon walk. The mornings are crisp, so you can still bundle up to walk, but the weather is perfect in the afternoons. Push your littles in the stroller or your older kids can ride bikes and walk with you. The perfect opportunity to get fresh air and some wiggles out before bedtime.
2. Visit a farmer's market. Harvest season is a great time to visit, and an opportunity to teach your kids about it as well. You can always find fresh produce and maybe even a treat at the markets. This is also a great way to support your community.
3. Don't forget a pumpkin patch. Older kids will enjoy picking out their own pumpkin and hopefully find a hay maze, and if you have a baby you can find their first pumpkin!
4. Find an apple orchard. Many orchards also offer tractor or hay rides, kids of all ages will love this. Learn about apples and bring one home to eat.
5. Go on a nature hunt. Scavenge your yard or a park for items like acorns, pinecones, or leaves that show signs of autumn. Help littles feel the items and how they're soft or crunch- your older kids can glue them on paper to create a collage.
6. Themed sensory activities. Homemade play dough scented from your favorite fall flavors: apple, pumpkin, and cinnamon is a great way to bring autumn inside and kids of all ages love playing with play dough or even help making it. You can also use the items from a nature hunt to put in a sensory bin for all to enjoy.
7. Themed books. Go to the library and find some books focusing on autumn. Reading is so important for every age and is a wonderful family bonding experience.
Autumn is a wonderful time to focus on family, especially with the busy season of the year coming up. Spend time together and make wonderful memories both in and out of the house. Don't forget- take photos so you can remember such a special time in your life!
